“post-election”

How odd to come back to something I haven’t done since right before the 2016 election when I posted the beautiful Mary Oliver poem, “Wild Geese.” (Mary Oliver has since died, in January of this year.) Since my last post, there have been numerous times in sessions where I have used the phrases “post-election” and “pre-election,” not previously knowing how frequently I would later use these phrases in therapy sessions to refer to so much more. Like a finger pointing at the moon.

I haven’t known how to come back to this blog, and after so much time passing, I have asked myself: what would do justice in some way to the time passing? How could I link the before and the after? I haven’t been able to, until now, after being so moved by these leaders’ voices.

These four women are utterly wise, vibrant, and powerfully smart—true examples of incredible leadership in this country. With utter respect, I offer you, oddly enough (because it is in the form of a press conference), ~21 minutes of brilliant resistance from our Congressmembers: Rep. Ayanna Pressley, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Rep. Rashida Tlaib.
